Having a baby can be a stressful time, but it doesn’t have to be. That’s where I come in. I’m here to help you keep your baby shopping list, or registry list small. You don’t need a TON of the latest gadgets, which I’m sure are nice, but not necessary. This list isn’t EVERYTHING, but a good start and can be adjusted as you see fit.

Basic Baby Products
• Diapers, disposable or cloth. Check out my size 1 diaper review here.
• Wipes
• Car seat and Stroller. I suggest getting a travel system in the beginning if you can afford buying two within the same year. A travel system is where you you get a car seat and a stroller together in a set. The car seat snaps out of the car seat base and right onto the stroller. It’s super convenient and because most strollers come with a basket underneath, it makes quick shopping trips a breeze.
Now Onto The Essential Baby Items…
• Sleeping arrangements: Crib or Pack N Play. I chose to go with a pack n play because it comes with more features. Pack n plays come with an insert that lets you put the base in the middle so you don’t have to bend all the way to the bottom in order to reach your baby. Some also come with a napper and a changing station. Just be careful with anything that is at an angle or puts your baby at an incline; it can be unsafe.
• Swing, bouncer, chair: We had a manual chair that rocked and we loved it. Didn’t have any bells and whistles, but it got the job done. Be cautious with all things that put your baby at an angle or incline so that your baby’s airways are not constricted.
• Waterproof Mattress Pad: Sometimes you don’t change your baby during the night and since they’re drinking more when they’re tiny, they’re filling up their diapers…a lot. Some diapers aren’t that good either and may leak, so waterproof mattress pads are a must. Make sure you read the dimensions of the mattress pad before purchasing as some are specifically for a pack n play pad which is smaller than a crib mattress.
• Soft sheets: Sheets are not all made equal. Some are super sough and feel like sandpaper. Just like with the mattress pad, make sure you read the dimensions of the sheets before purchasing as some are specifically for a pack n play pad and some are specifically for crib/toddler mattresses.
• Changing pads: I used waterproof changing pads which were awesome and they didn’t have that plastic material on the backside. I also used the Gerber cloth diapers since you go through a lot of changing pads, because no matter how neat you try to be during diaper changes, poop always ended up getting on the pads. The Gerber ones aren’t waterproof, but they come in handy. He never peed during diaper changes, so all I had to worry about was poop getting on the cloths. They are also super handy when it comes to cleaning up around the house.
• Pajamas: We used a lot of regular onesies, but when it came to actual pajamas, baby nightgowns, sleep sacks, and one piece zipper onesies are awesome! Baby nightgowns are long and the bottom stays open and they make nighttime diaper changes a breeze. Some of the nightgowns run HUGE and they aren’t all that great, but when you find a good fit, they are a go. Sleep sacks have arm holes with a zipper down the length of the sac and your baby just fits right in there. Zipper onesies are another great option. I don’t suggest the onesies with a ton of buttons as they can take forever and really they’re just annoying, lol.
• Clothes: White t-shirts; both short sleeves and long sleeves are great and they go with everything. Footie pants are sold with outfits and separates. They are so convenient and quick. It’s way easier to use these than separate pants and socks. Socks.
• Burp cloths
• Wash cloths: They are not all made equal. We have so many wash cloths it’s ridiculous, but needed. We go through a lot of these and use them for everything. We use them for diaper changes, showers, cleaning him up after he eats, etc… I do not suggest microfiber washcloths.
• Nose aspirator: The Nose Frida is a great investment.
• Fingernail clippers
• Pacifier
• Boppy neck pillow: It comes as a 2 piece set but I only used the neck pillow. I feel like the head support piece pushed him forward too much and that isn’t safe.
