Thing to remember: If something works for me, it may not work for you and if something does not work for me, it may work wonders for you! Our hair may LOOK the same, but everyone’s hair is different.
I’ve had these products for a year now, giving me ample time to test them out in different conditions, and I’m not super fond of them.
I have 7 products from the Honey’s Handmade™ hair product line. I have 3 masks, a co-wash, moisturizer, custard and a butter.
Of the 7 products, the 2 that I used most were the Chocolate Milk Moisturizer and the Vanilla Honey & Coconut Milk Custard. These two products give me mixed results EVERY time I use them. Sometimes my results are bomb and others, not so much. My hair does get dry only after a day or two. When separating my twists, it gets frizzy and a little tangled.
Vanilla Honey & Coconut Milk Custard – 8oz
Ingredients: DISTILLED AQUA, ORGANIC COCONUT MILK, SOY BUTTER, RAW HONEY, COCONUT OIL, MADAGASCAR VANILLA EXTRACT, MURUMURU, COCOA SEED, ILLIPE BUTTER, HORSETAIL
This has a nice, light scent and I’d definitely rock a perfume that smells like this. Of all the products I own from this company, this one smells the best. It has a pretty thick whipped consistency, but when you put it on your hair, it doesn’t weigh it down and it doesn’t feel like anything is really on your hair. When twisting with this it just makes my hair swell up and my twists aren’t really defined because they get so puffy. This is best if used while hair is really wet. When using this custard with just damp hair, my hair looks really dry with the product on it.
Chocolate Milk Moisturizer – 8oz
Ingredients: DISTILLED WATER, SOYBEAN, SHEA, COCOA BUTTER, COCOA POWDER, LANOLIN OIL, ALOE BARBADENSIS, RAW HONEY, SWEET ALMOND, AVOCADO OIL, POLYSORBATE 80, CETYL ALCOHOL, PREMIUM FRAGRANCE
The consistency of this is a thick and a little chunky. Smells like chocolate. It states that it can be used as a leave-in styler on wet hair, or dry hair, but you may not achieve the best results, a conditioning treatment or to assist in detangling. I use it as the leave-in. Like the custard, this is best used with really wet hair.
Lemon Honey Healthy Hair Butter – 8oz
Ingredients: SHEA BUTTER, LEMON BUTTER, BRAZIL NUT BUTTER, RAW HONEY, ALOE BARBADENSIS, VITAMIN E, AVOCADO OIL, PREMIUM LEMON SCENT
This is Shea butter and it is pretty thick when it comes to using it on our hair. When using this Shea butter to twist my hair it feels really weird, like it only coats some strands.
Cherry Almond Tapioca Co-Wash Cleansing Cream – 8oz
Ingredients: DISTILLED WATER, AVOCADO BUTTER, ALMOND BUTTER, TAPIOCA STARCH, CASTILE SOAP, AVOCADO OIL, HONEYQUAT, HAZELNUT, PATAUA OIL, DL PANTHENOL
This product doesn’t have any slip. It is thick, but super creamy. Just rubbing it between your fingers, you would think there would be a lot of slip, but nope. Slip is something I look for in a co-wash. Once the co-wash is on, it just feels like there is a film on my hair. As the water runs over my hair in the shower, that’s when I detangle…without any product. Once I put the co-wash on my hair I tried to comb through it again, but since it was just a film on my hair, it had gotten a little tangled and the comb did not go through my strands easily. It claims to get rid of residue, but it doesn’t… for me at least. The directions say there should be low suds, but you have to use A LOT of the product for there to be even minimal suds.
Hibiscus Honey Conditioning Mask
Ingredients: DISTILLED WATER, HIBISCUS, ALOE BARBADENSIS, ALOE OIL, ALOE JUICE, MANGO BUTTER, SOY BUTTER, HONEY POWDER, RAW HONEY, COLTSFOOT, HORSETAIL, COCOA, CAPACUCA, VEGETABLE EMULSIFYING WAX.
Firstly, there are no directions on how to use this product on the label or website. This mask has a nice scent to it. I applied it to my whole head and left it on for 20 minutes. Like some of the other products, with just rubbing this product in your hands, it seems like there would be a lot of slip, but there isn’t. It really feels like there’s not much of anything on my hair once it is applied. You have to use A LOT of this product in order for there to feel like there is something actually coating your hair, but it doesn’t make my hair feel any softer with it on. It is really loose and creamy, but looks like there are little beads throughout. I CAN comb through my hair with this product on it, but my hair doesn’t really tangle and I can usually brush or comb through my hair with just water. My hair felt no different after using this mask.
Tomato and Honey Intense Moisture Mask – 6.5oz
Ingredients: DISTILLED AQUA, TOMATO SEED, RAW HONEY, MANGO BUTTER, COCOA, GRAPESEED, SILK AMINO, ARGAN, ALOE, FRAGRANCE
Oh em gee…this stuff smells awful. It has a nice, light, whipped consistency. To fully coat just one section of your hair you have to use quite a bit of product. This just sat on my hair and I couldn’t even finger comb through my previously detangled hair with this product. After rinsing the product out, it seemed to leave a film on my hair. My hair felt no different after using this mask.
Pumpkin & Kokum Chocolate Deep Conditioning Mask – 8oz
Ingredients: DISTILLED AQUA, PUMPKIN BUTTER, KOKUM BUTTER, PALM BUTTER, ILLIPE BUTTER, COCOA BUTTER, RHASSOUL CLAY, COCOA SEED, GRAPE SEED, BLACK CASTOR, ALOE BARBADENSIS, AGAVE NECTAR, HAZELNUT OIL, FRAGRANCE
Seems to have the same exact texture as the tomato mask when rubbing it between your fingers. It has about the same consistency as the tomato mask, too. The difference between this mask and the tomato mask is that you can run your fingers/a comb through your hair with this product. Does not have a lot of slip. My hair felt no different after using this mask.
Packaging
- It is hard to read some of the print because it is a little blurred.
- There are a few spelling and grammar errors along with missing punctuation.
- The ingredients list is cut off on one of the labels.
- The healthy hair butter has a paper label and I think that it should have the same type of label as the rest of the products, especially being an oil based product. Paper and oil …bad combo.
- Packaging does not draw me in.
Website
- I know nothing about this company because there is no ABOUT section. I think that would be beneficial to present and future customers.
Would I recommend?
- I would NOT recommend any of the products you have to rinse out (the masks and the co-wash).
- If you are a fan of shea butter, then I would recommend getting the Lemon Honey Healthy Hair Butter…I feel it can be used on your hair or body.
- Chocolate milk moisturizer and vanilla honey & coconut milk custard – I would recommend if you like really light products without much slip, otherwise, no, I would not recommend.
Pricing
All the products that I have range from $13 to $17.50. I do think they are a little pricey.

…we apologize that you were so dissatisfied with our line. In a years time we have grown tremendously. When starting a small business there are many learning curves. I’m not sure exactly what you wanted to know about myself the owner or the brand? However, I’m an open book if you were to follow our live videos & social media accounts you may find everything you need to know. I do wish you all the best on your journey. And again; I’m awfully sorry that you found our line so horrible. Valiencia
Hello Valiencia,
There’s no need for an apology, you have an amazing product line… Although my hair did not respond well to a majority of the products mentioned in my review, it really just comes down to MY hair texture/type.
Please know that I did not create/write this blog post with the intentions of disparaging your brand. My reviews are based on my own personal experiences and solely influenced by the results achieved after styling my hair with the product(s) that I’ve reviewed.
This is the first of many blog post/reviews that I plan on writing on my quest to find products that are compatible with my particular hair type. Products that do not work well for me, could possibly be the holy grail product(s) that other naturals have been seeking. Which is why I encourage anyone reading my reviews to try the products out for themselves so that they can form their own opinions.
Congratulations on your success thus far, I wish you nothing but continued growth in your business and in all of your future endeavors.
