This is gonna be a little gross, but …………… It happened to me after both pregnancies and has happened to other new moms as well.
What am I talkin’ about? Random blobs of tissue or blood clots falling out of my, and possibly, your vagina.
You will bleed after delivering your baby, that’s normal, but you want to watch for excessive bleeding in the days or weeks after birth. If you’re saturating more than 1 pad an hour, consult someone. Passing blood clots after birth is also normal, but if you find yourself passing multiple a day, constantly passing huge ones, or you feel something isn’t right, GO GET CHECKED OUT.
My Blood Clots after Birth
Soooooo, one day, I was sitting on the toilet and I felt something sliding, very slowly out of my vagina. I looked down and this long, dark red and brown blob was about to fall into the toilet. The top, dark red ½ of it looked to have a balloon shaped sac on it. The bottom ½ was brown; I’m guessing because it had probably hit some air for a while because it had already been sliding down before I even felt it. It was about 6 inches long and a ½ inch wide. I yelled for Derrick to come look at it. I figured it was just happening because I had just given birth, so I wasn’t worried at all, I just wanted to get a picture to share.
With one, I was in the shower and I had Derrick bring me a baggie, but I forgot to get a picture and it sat for like 2 weeks, and stunk when I came across it…yuck, so I didn’t even try to get a picture because it smelled. It was another long blob and it slid right out.
The last time, I think, I had been walking around the house and felt something hanging out of my vagina, but I knew what it was by this time, so I went to sit on the toilet and it didn’t just slide right out. After grabbing a little bit of tissue, I pulled on it very gently and felt a tugging on my insides, so I left it hanging out, but later that day it slid out on its own. I do not advise yanking it or pulling on it, unless it just slides when you pull. If there’s any tension at all, just leave it and it will come out on its own.
I Googled something like, ” blood clots after birth” or “blood clots after vaginal delivery” after I experienced it and some ladies had clots or tissue expelled that were wayyyyyyyy bigger than mine. These ladies said they had golf ball, softball (too big), plum, and sausage sized tissue or clots passing. One even put the blood clot into a baggie and took it to the ER with her; they said it was a part of the placenta, hmmmmm.
Now mind you, mine were very small compared to some women’s…and I didn’t have many, just 3 or 4, so I wasn’t worried.
Quick though: OH MY GOODNESS… Initially, I only searched through the written articles/blog posts that came up in my search results. I hadn’t thought of looking at the images until AFTER I had written my own blog post about it, but now I see why some women are concerned. I probably would be too, so use your best judgement. Give your doctor a call or go get it checked out.
Thanks for reading this post and I hope you know you are not alone. I also hope my pictures didn’t gross you out too much, lol.
