4 Months, So Soon?
Well, guess what? He is only four months and walking already!! Crazy, right?! Just kidding! I’m not ready for that just yet.
It only took him a few days after he turned 3 months to finally reach his feet and now, every second that he is awake, he’s playing with his feet. He sleeps on his stomach and when he wakes up, he rolls over and starts playing with them immediately. In the middle of the night when I’m changing his diaper, he doesn’t even open his eyes but he’s reaching for his feet. He’s obsessed with them. He’s even started to put his big toe in his mouth and I’m pretty sure they’re a little salty because he has sweaty feet and sometimes he makes faces, lol.
On that note, babies are super flexible and we plan to continue having him stretch regularly as he grows so he’ll keep that flexibility, for basketball of course…
On his 3-month day, he would only look at the toys we dangled in front of him and now he just can’t get enough. His eyes just light up when he sees the toys and hears them jingle. I think it’s the funniest thing when he goes to reach for the toys because his arms are a little shaky… it’s all so new to him, but he’s definitely getting better day by day.
He has discovered that he can take his pacifier out of his mouth and he does it all the time. He stares at it for a little bit, but the only thing about that is, he can’t always get it back in his mouth on his own, so he starts crying.
Laughing? Yep! It’s kinda hard to figure out what makes him laugh, but it could just be any word, literally, or sound. He doesn’t “crack up” yet, but he laughs a little.
Sleep
He’s been fighting it. Sometimes he gets so frustrated because he’s super sleepy, that he starts to pull his hair and scratch his face…but all he really wanted was a few more sips of milk.
Eating/Drinking
He is still exclusively breastfed, but I have bought rice cereal, just haven’t used it yet. Everyone, including Derrick, thinks I should start.
Breastfeeding is still all over the place. Some days it’s perfect and some days it hurts a little; especially when he’s fighting his sleep and decides he wants to pull my nip with him in whichever direction he goes.
He used to take a bottle just fine, but because we rarely use it, now, when he starts drinking, he makes the craziest faces, like, “Mama/Daddy, if you don’t get this outta my face… I want the real deal,” lol.
Dirty Diapers
He is very regular in this department. No shortage of dirty diapers.
When I take his diaper off lately, he starts scratching his side, to the point of breaking his skin and making himself bleed. I move his hands away as soon as I see them heading in that direction. I’m not sure why he does this…does it itch, hurt, feel irritated? I don’t know. The skin in that area doesn’t LOOK irritated, but I don’t know what he’s feeling, ya know?
Bathtime
Same old thang. I still use the hospital bucket and leave the real baths to Derrick. If I do have to give him a real bath or shower, I’ll sit on the floor in the shower with him, so I don’t drop him. That would be bad.
We still haven’t found a “cure” for his dry skin, but soon, hopefully!
Outings
We go on regular outings, but we just make it quick. I have to constantly feed him, and of course, change him if need be. I don’t usually use the bathroom changing tables because they need regular cleanings just like everything else, and a lot of them are gross, so nope! If there’s a fitting room somewhere, I’ll change him in there and sit in there and feed him.
Clothes
He’s wearing a Nike onesie that says “I RUN THINGS,” and I told Derrick that that was pretty much true at the moment, lol. Two things that Derrick is obsessed with: basketball and Nike.
I’m not ready…
I know he’ll be crawling soon and into everything, so I’m preparing myself for constant movement, but he’s growing so fast, it’s crazy!
