Bantu knots are a super cute style. They make a fashion statement, but not everyone is brave enough to wear them outside of their home. Derrick, my husband loves when I wear bantu knots; really any style, but he had been asking me to do bantu knots for a long time and I don’t know what took me so long.
When I was halfway done with my hair, I just had to stop and go show Derrick because I was just thinking to myself, why did I wait so long to do bantu knots again because I was LOVING the results and it was so quick to do because they were a nice size.
There are two ways to twist your bantu knots. If I’m going to be unraveling them and wearing the curls you get from bantu knots, I do two strand twist bantu knots, but if I’m going to be wearing the bantu knots as a style without taking them down and wearing my hair curly I may just twist my hair around my finger until it tightens and wrap it into a bantu knot.
Steps to Completing Your Bantu Knots:
I know that I don’t like middle parts, so I knew how I wanted to section my hair for the knots. Also, decide how big you want to do the bantu knots before starting, so you’ll have a general idea.
Tip: The smaller the section and longer your hair, the taller the bantu knot will be.
• Start by parting your hair, it doesn’t have to be neat, but because I was wearing the bantu knots as a style for a few days before taking them down I wanted the parts to be semi straight.
• Two strand twist each section.
• Once you get to the ends, you want to wrap the twist around your finger, in the same direction of the twist (as if you were finger coiling the hair) until it starts to tighten and loop on its own.
• Once it starts to loop around itself, you want to wrap it until it becomes the bantu knot. With each twist, you want to wrap and “tuck” the twist closest to your head; at the base. You don’t want it to be too tight because you WILL get a headache.
• Secure with a rubber band or bobby pins. I prefer rubber bands if I am going to wear the bantu knots as a style so you don’t see a bunch of bobby pins in my head.
Products Used for Bantu Knots
•Taliah Waajid Protective Styles Bamboo, Biotin, & Basil Strengthening Leave-In Conditioner (Protective Styles collection) – Walmart
Mini review: Lightweight but still coats all my strands nicely without being watery. Makes my hair soft.
•Taliah Waajid Green Apple & Aloe Nutrition Curl Elixir (Green Apple & Aloe collection) (Online ONLY)
Mini review: The perfect consistency; not too thin to where it doesn’t feel like there’s nothing on my hair and not too thick to where it prolongs my drying time. Right in the middle. Smooths out my hair and makes it extra soft. You don’t need a lot.
This combo works for me.
