I just want to know how an 8 month old (keep in mind this is from month 8 until 9) knows that putting a pillow from the couch on the floor in front of him will help to break his fall, how?! Hashtag smart baby. Just imagine what he’ll be doing when he is a 9 month old.
Crawling or Walking
For three weeks, we went to visit family in Maryland and I could hardly get anything done. They have two sets of stairs, with no baby gates, unlike at home. Since he knew how to get up the stairs without a problem, he was constantly going up them, but still hadn’t figured out how to come down, so I had to keep a constant eye on him.
Once he got to the top of the stairs he would reach for me and I tried to teach him how to come down on his own by turning his body and maneuvering his arms and legs, but he was not having it.
At the beginning of the month, he was only trying to walk around holding onto things, but towards the end of the month, he wanted help to walk around. I would walk around with him, holding his hands every so often. Eventually, if I was standing somewhere, he’d pull himself up using my legs and reach for my hands. One time he reached for my hands and started walking before I could even gets his hands in a comfortable position within mine. I guess he was letting me know I was taking too long. So this was the start.
He really enjoyed seeing new faces and liked to be with them, so that’s good.
Breastfeeding and Solids
Yep, he’s still breastfed.
Gerber and Beech-Nut Classics baby food have been my best friends, still. I slowly introduce more “real food” to him. My family would try to get me to give him more than I was ready for. Still no teeth, so no, I did not want to give him some of the things they were suggesting; so don’t feel pressured.
If I was eating a sandwich, I’d rip small pieces off and let him eat it with me. He did start eating Apple Jacks, which I was a little hesitant about because that is something that he could definitely choke on, but he did really well, and he LOVES them. Here is my playlist that I regularly refresh my baby CPR / First Aid skills with.
Sleeping
Why is he still waking up multiple times throughout the night? Why?!
Before I left for Maryland, I was trying to figure out the sleeping arrangements for him I knew that I did not want to co-sleep with him, but for the first couple nights I did, and I see how dangerous it is. If you co-sleep and nothing has ever happened to your child, that’s awesome, don’t bite my head off, but it’s not for me, right now at least. It’s not that I sleep wild or move too much, but he does. He will fall asleep at one end of the bed and end in a new direction. Luckily my aunt still had her pack n play for us to use… that made me way more comfortable and my stay more enjoyable because I didn’t have to worry about where my blanket and pillows were.
Bathtime
Things were a little different while we were out of town, but I tried to make it work. I washed him up in the sink quite a bit and would stand him up in the bathtub and use a cup to rinse him off.
His poos are awfully stinky, so baths are a MUST.
He’s doing great and progressing very well, I’m excited!
Do you remember what your baby was doing by the time they were a 9 months that made you the most excited or what you wish would change? Leave a comment and let me know. Until next time…
