So much can happen in 1 month!
This month, by far, has been the most exciting… Derrick agrees. His growth this month has been phenomenal! I love to see him smile, laugh, spit his food out, make weird faces, and all that other baby stuff, but the rate at which he’s growing makes me sad that this baby stage will be over soon. He’s growing too fast…tear!
These pictures have 3 of Derrick’s favorite(st) things in them; basketball, Nike, & Batman!
Eating
He tries to eat anything he can get his hands on!
He is breastfed 95% of the time. I started feeding him Beech-Nut Rice Cereal mixed with water. He would eat a little bit, but would never eat enough to get full. After giving him a good amount of cereal, he would be so fussy and the only thing he wanted was breast milk.
Adding solids into his diet has been a little challenging because no matter what I try to feed him, he’d rather have milk. I’m really trying to get him to eat solids so he’ll stay full a tiny bit longer so he isn’t attached to me at the hip and I can get some things done. It’s so hard, y’all, lol.
I didn’t think this would happen until he was a little bit older, but he LITERALLY crawls up to me, pulls himself up and tries to get milk. Sometimes he’s so hungry that he cries the whole way to me.
The worst part about breast feeding now is that I guess his hands need to be doing something and he chooses to pinch and scratch me. It hurts so bad, y’all. He shows no mercy. I have scratches and bruises to prove it.
Getting Around
All in 1 month and 1 week, he went from the crawling position and flopping, to a “kickstand crawl.”
Before he even got crawling down, he would make his butt go from side to side and stay leaned over while trying to get into the sitting position. It didn’t take him long to figure out how to sit up. He balances himself so well while sitting up. If he starts to fall backwards, a lot of the time, he will shift his weight to the front so he doesn’t fall back.
He is constantly moving if he’s up and getting into everything that he isn’t supposed to. I try to pick things up right when they fall and tell Derrick to keep an eye out for small things on the floor as well. Since he gets into everything, if you move him away from something he isn’t supposed to have, sometimes he’ll cry, but I try to distract him with something he can have.
He puts his butt in the air with his hands and feet on the ground and sometimes even takes a little jump… I always ask him is he trying to play leap frog… like he can respond, haha!
He is not about that reclined life anymore. He has a bouncer and a hammock-type rocker and instead of laying back, he bent his arms and tried his hardest to sit up in those chairs, but now he just sits right up and wants to get out of those contraptions.
Bath Time
He takes showers and loves…I mean LOVES the water. If I’m holding him on my hip and I go to wash my hands, or his, as soon as I turn the water on he starts reaching and moving all around, getting so excited. It doesn’t matter how much water is around either… he’ll try to splash what’s there!
He no longer has those dry patches on his back, but his legs could use a little TLC because they are still a little rough. He also doesn’t get those little red bumps in the folds of his arms anymore. Yes!
Can’t do it All
He seems to be getting a little fussier, but I think it’s because he wants to do way more than he can. Sometimes he even cries when we leave his sight, and that can be a little ehhh at times, but he can’t do anything about it. When he’s fussy, I’ll be all the way across the room, and he’ll be crying and will muster up enough strength to crawl all the way to me, just like he does when he’s hungry.
It’s crazy that babies just know what to do. God is so awesome.
Thanks to Jennae for this awesome Nike basketball shirt. She gave us a hat to go with it, but his head is a little (a lot) too big. 🙂
Thanks to Zay for the mini basketball. It’s so cute and actually looks like a real one!
Thanks to my big sister for the Batman teether!
