The major things happened this month. It’s all going too fast. 11 months old already?
He is too much. I don’t even know how he knows some of the things that he does.
His teeth started coming in, finally. They started to break through at the middle of the month, and in two weeks, they grew so much. It’s like once they start, it goes so fast.
Getting Around and Walking
He started fully walking and hasn’t stopped since. Gone are the crawling days and he gets around so fast and is only getting faster by the day. Seems like he’s trying to run already.
He’ll start going upstairs and will look back to see if I’m coming and when I catch him, he thinks it’s the funniest thing.
Sometimes if I have my phone near me and I’m not paying attention, it’s like his eyes light up then he’ll grab my phone and I usually yell, “Hey! Get back here!” and he laughs and runs away.
We have a baby gate perpendicular to the top of the stairs and I guess he’s been watching how we close it, so now he tries to close it himself and I think it’s so funny. If I’m on the side closest to the stairs, he tries to “lock me out.” He will get the gate as close as he can to the fasteners and then runs off. I open it and he comes back and closes it. We do this over and over until he’s done.
I love this gate, just make sure to put the gate onto the hinge side and then line up the peices it will be inserted in before drilling. If not, you’ll probably have to LIFT the gate up a little, then insert (PUSH FORWARD) like we have to do.
hE is almost able to pull himself up on the couch…oh no. If I’m sitting on the couch, he’ll pull on my pants with one hand, use the other hand/arm for strength, and lift his leg as high as it can go onto the couch and he’s got it.
Learning Baby Sign Language – ASL
This month I started teaching him the basics, although my main concern was for him to learn “milk” in American Sign Language, he has managed to learn that. He learned in about two weeks. I was letting him get milk on his own, pulling it out himself, and I decided to stop that. So he couldn’t pull my shirt down, I started holding my shirt, and showing him the milk sign. Sometimes he would get frustrated because I was stopping him from drinking as soon as he was ready. I would point to my boob and show him milk and he got it. Now, even when he’s super fussy, he’ll look at me with those sad eyes and sign milk. He even signs milk when he gets caught doing something; it’s like the milk can save him, lol. I will definitely be teaching him more as time goes on. Teaching your child the basics, at minimum, is a great thing so they can tell you what they want and you aren’t stuck guessing.
I really like these videos by Rachel, because she shows you how to do the sign and then she shows different kids doing the same sign. I think her adding in different kids interpretation of how to do each sign is a great addition to the videos because it shows you that kids are doing the sign for this or that, but it might not look exactly right, obviously because they are still young and they don’t have all the motor skills yet.

Patty Shukla is another channel I like. She has a lot of videos where she sings and this is her baby sign language playlist that I think is really helpful and they aren’t long.
Feeling Hot but NO Fever
There was a few days when I just had to keep an eye on him because his forehead was extremely warm to the touch and I knew it wasn’t normal, but he was acting like his regular self. I took a rectal temperature and it was normal, so I didn’t worry too much. I did Google this, so I’m not the only person who has dealt with this.
Dancing and Toys
He loves to dance, to everything. If a song comes on, no matter what it is, he’ll dance with his hands in the air.
Up until now, he’s had unconventional toys; things like bottles, cork coasters, and a few real toys, but I just bought him two toys that make noise and he loves them.
Breastfeeding and Solids
Finally off of baby food, I still try to give him the fruits though. Two of his favorites (I think) are blueberry waffles and Quaker Maple and Brown Sugar Oatmeal. Honestly I just don’t know what to give him; I know there are plenty of ideas on Pinterest, but sometimes when I do make something, he doesn’t want it, so waffles and oatmeal it is, lol.
He’s a lot more aware now, too. When a food wrapper rattles, he is eyeing it and reaching….if I don’t give him any, he has a mini fit. I didn’t think this would start until he was a little older. One day I made some green beans with a seasoning that I didn’t think had much spice to it, but I tasted it before giving it to him and it’s a good thing I did. It had a kick to it, it was almost too spicy for me. He seen me grab the green bean, which he thought was for him, and when I put it in my mouth he started to cry.
He’s been wanting to feed himself for months, so if it’s not something like grits, I’ll just give it to him. It’s like he hates the sight of a spoon coming his way.
He is just a busy body. He learns everything so fast. Can’t wait to see what next month brings. Oh, and if you missed his 10 month update, check it out.
